Stereophonic Love – no. 1

I had this idea the other week to start sharing some the songs in rotation on my ipod.  Music is so important to me, and as many of you know I have been a DJ for some years now.  But I also used to write songs on my guitar and perform in coffeehouses.  I have always been a music lover – I remember putting my first cassette into my first cassette player…guess what it was…Survivor and I was jamming to Eye of the Tiger…I was 5.

I love how you can hear a song and it can bring you right back in time…to the place you were in your life when that particular song was on repeat if you know what I mean.  Maybe it was the summer of 1985 or your senior year in high school, or your first fall semester in college.  I love this feeling, music is just so powerful.

Music is the tapestry of our lives.  The music we listen to through the years is our own personal sound track we are living our lives to.  I wanted to share this piece of me, maybe turn you onto some new bands, and possibly get comments from others who will turn me onto some new stuff as well.  And where did the name stereophonic love come from?  I don’t know, it just popped up in my head, sounded good, and made sense…it works.

So check these tunes out:

Addicted to Love – Florence + The Machine – Yes, it is a cover of the Robert Palmer song, and it rocks!

The Spirit of Jazz – The Gaslight Anthem – I am totally digging this band….Rolling Stone compared the singer to Bruce Springsteen, ’nuff said I suppose.

Both Hands – Ani DiFranco – My first Ani DiFranco album, her first too I think.  I just rediscovered this one, it was a college staple.

Rhythm of Love – Plain White T’s – Simply infectious, it’s a toe tapper tune.

The Cave – Mumford & Sons – Totally glad I got turned onto these guys, amazing stuff and on constant replay, the whole album.

Wow, it is hard to stop at five, but that’s it, five songs for Stereophonic Love no. 1.  Hope you enjoy…and of course, no post is complete without at least one photo. This was taken at a workshop I did with Justin and Mary Marantz last spring.
