The King – Weeks Family Photo Shoot

The other week Linda hooked me up with a family shoot for the King family, as well as herself and her sister Deb King. This was my first family shoot and it went awesome. The girls were less than thrilled to be participating in a photo shoot, and husband Brian wasn’t too thrilled either. By the end, Allie and Lexie did appear to actually be enjoying themselves….as I figured out what it took to get a 6 year old and 10 year old to love and hug one another and smile!

I am really excited about the pictures and I am posting a few below. Enjoy!

Linda’s Horse Riding Lesson – Giddy Up!

This past weekend I visited my good friend Linda at the Pine Fall Farm in Lunenburg, Massachusetts. She wanted some pictures of her horseback riding lesson and I was game! So she hopped on Rosie the horse and off she went – well – off she went and jumped and did challenging things as she trained and prepared for the fall horse show.

This was a great opportunity for me to try out my new zoom lens because I wouldn’t have been able to even consider doing this shoot without it. I was floored by being able to zoom and then when I came home and looked at the pictures, I was really excited about what I had captured. Here are a few photos from the day. I really do love them all, but the black and whites REALLY have my eye….

As an aside, I was also thinking about processing as I worked on these photos. You know, I am still trying to figure myself out – there are just so many ways to see one moment stopped in time. Sometimes I see it in black and white, and that works, sometimes I see it a little faded and aged, and sometimes I see all the colors and want them to shine. I guess this is a part of finding out who I am as a photographer. I can work with every tool I have and sooner or later there will be a niche. And, if I am a jack of all trades, colors and textures, so be it!

Anonymous - You did an awesome job with these photos! Another bonus to using that zoom lens-I’m able to critique myself with my form :) . Seriously-these are beautiful. Thank you so much for coming out!

Salon 77

My hair stylist, Leah McCann invited me to a one year anniversary celebration at her Salon, Salon 77 in North Reading. It was also a night to showcase some of the Sebastian product line. This was a fabulous night with food, drink and fun! Both Maarit and I enjoyed ourselves, she purchased some goodies from Sebastian, we both met a lot of great people, and I took a lot of fun pictures! Thanks for having me Leah – here are just a few to preview:

Baby Peyton

Lots of firsts coming my way, including this baby photo shoot for neighbors Lorin and Mike who just had daughter Peyton a little over a month ago! Immense thank you to Lorin and her sister who were totally patient with me. Actually, they were a major creative force during this shoot and were super excited to be a part of it. I am truly grateful for the experience and from it I have some great pictures for Mike and Lorin that they will have forever.

I took around 400 pictures, I have gone through a handful of them and still have a ton more to go through. But in the mean time, I wanted to put some of my favorites up on the blog. Nothing wrong with a little preliminary sharing….and hopefully in a few weeks I will have Peyton’s photos all processed and ready to go : )

Oh, even dog Henry got in on the action and I had to post him on the blog too! Babies and dogs, two of the cutest things life has to offer!

And one last thing – as Maarit looked at these she made a great point – why is it that Peyton is mostly laying down? Yeah, I think I needed to add a bit more poses, but like what do you do with a newborn! And I was so caught up in doing a good job taking the pictures, I sort of let the posing ideas go…and this is something great to learn. Next time I’m taking baby pictures (or anyone for that matter) I need to make sure to mix it up a bit! And for the babies….I need a bean bag to place them on….that’s what the professionals do: )

New Lens!

Yes, tonight I picked up my new lens at UPS. The Canon 70-200mm f/2.8 L with IS. This thing is amazing and I only had the chance to play with it for a little while. Luckily I have pets because my cat gave me a great opportunity to try the zoom lens out. I even put my flash on the camera to do a little bit of experimenting. I LOVE IT!!!

Here’s one of my shots from tonight, thanks to Aiden.
