Australian Brides Leisa & Jane – Boston Gay Wedding Photographer

Yikes, it’s been so long since I have blogged a wedding! Have no fear, I have some catching up to do….and I will start by showing some photos from Leisa and Jane’s wedding on the Boston Common on Valentine’s Day!

Leisa and Jane are from the area of Brisbane, Australia and decided to head to Massachusetts to get legally married.  It was their first time visiting the USA. They worked with Bernadette Coveney-Smith and her company 14 Stories to plan all the details.

It was so much fun hanging out with Leisa and Jane and I was honored to be a part of their wedding day. As you can tell from the photos, they are just awesome women who love each other immensely, and know how to have fun and laugh!   This first photo is my favorite, it was taken at the Nine Zero Hotel in Boston which is a part of my favorite hotel chain, Kimpton Hotels.  I religiously seek out their hotels in every city I visit!

Hansen - (DVD) I have always been a fan of Julia Roberts and the moevis she stars in her smile is infectious, it lights up the screen. In 1997, she made a comeback with a starring role in the romantic comedy My Best Friend’s Wedding. The film went on to become one of the most successful girly moevis of the whole decade, and after watching it earlier tonight on TV, it’s not hard to see why. It still holds up seven years later. The comedy is fresh, funky and slick. The plot is nothing original, but it holds up brilliantly because of the film’s four main stars. You have Julia Roberts, of course, who is no doubt a future Hollywood legend. Then there’s Cameron Diaz in one of her best film roles not quite topping her sexual cameo in The Mask three years earlier, but still bringing much humour to her role. Rupert Everett and Dermot Mulroney are the two main male actors and also do their roles justice.Julia Roberts plays Julianne Potter, a fast-talking confident Chicago food critic who used to date Michael O’Neal (Dermot Mulroney) in their college days. They since broke up after nine years and moved apart. They made a pact, however, that if by the age of 28 they both were not married, then they would marry each other. When Julianne receives a call from Michael three weeks before that pact deadline, she assumes he is ringing to get back with her. However, Michael is calling to introduce Julianne to his seemingly wonderful, irritatingly perfect fiancee Kimberly Wallace (Cameron Diaz) and announce their wedding which is taking place in just three days. That leaves Julianne three short days to break up the marriage and win back the man she has only just realised she loved all along. She will either win or lose that’s the conclusion. Ronald Bass’ perfectly-constructed screenplay keeps the viewer on the edge, forever guessing if she will win her battle. Julianne’s gay friend George Downes (Rupert Everett) agrees to help her, but only to a certain extent, and he is a hilarious asset to the comedic intentions put forth by the writers of the film. The film’s plot seems at times far-fetched, and it is, but this is a light-hearted, romantic comedy with many cliche9s built in for good measure! The comedy is spot-on there aren’t many laugh out loud moments, but more of a continual giggle-fest that will have you smiling for most of the film. Julia Roberts is a certain crowd-puller. People from all over the world will flock to see her moevis, and this one was exception. Cameron Diaz was half the superstar in this film that she is today, and her glowing smile and charasmatic confidence shines through in her ditzy role. Rupert Everett reminds me of Hugh Grant in this film, which can be no bad thing! The film has many memobrable scenes, including Kimberely’s hilarious karoke nightclub performance of I Just Don’t Know What To Do With Myself. The restaurant hilarity of the group’s performance of Dianne Warwick’s I Say A Little Prayer is also perfectly executed, with only professional directors pulling it off amateurs could have easily messed it up big time. The big city bread truck chase is hilarious, and the film has many touching moments. Julianne’s constantly foiled attempts to sabotage the impending wedding are brilliant too: most notably the e-mail/falling off the chair scene. This film is pure comedic brilliance. It could have easily fallen flat on its face, but it didn’t because of the right balance between fresh actors and excellent dialogue.

Praveen - Angie, I’m not sure if I ever personally thnaked you for being so awesome. Between Julianne’s wedding, Jaclyn’s maternity shots, and my little black book session I feel like you’re one of the family.Oh, and thanks for the EPIC confetti shot. <3

Engagement Photos in Back Bay Sun this week!

During the summer I did an engagement shoot with the awesome Kim and John at the Boston Center for Adult Education (BCAE). Kim and John love to cook together and thought it would be fun to shoot their engagement session in the BCAE kitchens where they often take cooking classes together. Great idea I said!!

In return for use of the kitchen, we agreed to give the BCAE a copy of the images to use for any publications they did…but we were recently asked if it would be okay for the Back Bay Sun to use a photo for a Valentine’s Day article they were writing up!

That brings me to my posting today, the article is available in this weeks Back Bay Sun!  Yeah and an early Happy Valentine’s Day to all!

Baystate Bridal Expo 2011 – Boston Wedding Photographer

About two weeks ago we participated in the Baystate Bridal Expo at the Hynnes Convention Center in Boston.  This was our first bridal expo or bridal show and we were a little bit nervous going into it.  To sum things up, it was a great experience!

We worked so hard getting things ready leading up to the show to make sure that the booth itself reflected our branding and also reflected who I am as a photographer.  I wanted brides and potential clients to be able to pick us out of the crowd if we seemed like we might be a good fit for them and who they were. I think that our booth totally rocked and both Maarit and myself met so many cool brides…one bride to-be told me that my “lame quotient”  was zero and that was a HUGE compliment. We try our best to be cool…

Many business cards were handed out (we had an array to choose from including some cool cards that I designed through Moo) and we look forward to talking to the awesome people we met.  We held a drawing in which the winner receives an engagement shoot. I admit we have been holding off on pulling the winning ticket, but we plan on doing that this weekend and are totally pumped to do an engagement shoot for one lucky couple (which I will be sure to announce on the blog).

So again, for all you brides to be, nice meeting you!  And for all my current clients and fellow photographer friends, please feast your eyes on the booth we worked so hard to create!

Ah, I should note that the floral arrangement on the table between the chairs is from Winston’s Flowers on Newbury Street. They did an awesome job creating this edgy, but vintage array of flowers. And a shout out to the cool peeps I met including another florist, ‘flou(-e)r who had some amazing arrangements and the best smelling booth at the expo!

Holiday Gifts + Holiday Cards = Fun Projects

I wanted to do something nice for my clients this holiday season!

It seems like everything comes to us around the Christmas holiday, right? There are a bunch of cards being delivered, baked goods being prepared and all that nice holiday stuff, so there is this over abundance of holiday goodies… But then after the holidays have come and gone, we feel a little sad that the gift giving is over….Well, I figured that I would give a little New Years present to my clients in an attempt to be a little bit different…

I surprised them with these red takeout boxes filled with chocolate dipped fortune cookies! Yeah for 2011 and fortune cookies, great things are going to happen!

…And one more photo — I thought I would show folks the holiday card we made this year highlighting our new puppy Sofie! I had fun designing the card, it was the first time that I ever did something like this and I look forward to doing more design work.

2011 Pick on THE KNOT for best of Weddings

A few weeks ago I found out that I was a 2011 “Best of Weddings” Pick for The Knot!  Click here to take a look at my posting on The Knot.

This is super exciting since I only started using The Knot a few months ago, but all my brides left me the most fabulous reviews.  Thank you so much for your awesome reviews, they mean a lot to me, and without them I would have not received this award! Plus I think that it is great for prospective clients to be able to read about other couples’ experiences with a photographer.

Loving the photography is the first step, but brides and grooms should also make sure they are hiring someone they feel they can trust, someone who is an artist, but also understands the importance of great customer service.  For me this is an easy one – I treat my clients the way I would want to be treated and I try to make my business as hip as it can be so that it speaks to people just like me. If I were the customer, what would I want? In my experiences as a customer/client, I realize how some businesses just miss the mark, while others such as Apple and Kimpton Hotels keep me coming back for more and more….
