Boston Wedding Photographer

I Love Wedding Photography!

It’s been a busy week, but it’s been awesome.  Last Thursday I shot a beautiful wedding on the Boston Common for a wedding Bernadette from 14 Stories put together, then headed to Salem Willows over the weekend for a super sweet engagement shoot with a super awesome couple, and I topped things off yesterday by participating in a workshop held by Justin and Mary Marantz.   There’s a lot of blog posting to be done…as well as a lot of editing and I am loving it!

I truly do love wedding photography.  Do you ever wonder why someone has to travel so far and so wide to come full circle in following their true passions?  Some people never figure it out, but luckily I have.  Part of me wishes I was younger, or that I had followed my calling sooner.  I mean, I am 34 now and in some ways that sounds so young – but in other ways, so old.  I guess I look at some people who are a few years younger – who are doing what they love – and I wish I could have gotten to the place where I am now a few years ago.   But if I had, would I be the same person?  Would I be grateful?  I am not sure.

I’ve been reading a lot of business books lately, but they aren’t all business.  There is some personal development stuff lying in those pages.  Some books ask the deeper questions and prompt one to take steps – to be a doer, to be a starter, to blaze a trail versus sitting back and being pushed in the directions we aren’t always conscious of or think we cannot change.  I guess my point is that I see a lot of people who just sort of exist out there in the world and then I see a lot of people that are really present in their every day lives, moving and shaking and making things happen.  And for some people, their existence is happy and it works for them, they are content.  For me, I wasn’t happily content, I just became complacent.  This past weekend I watched Precious and for those of you that haven’t seen it, make sure to watch it.  It will make you think, about many things…

I am going to catch up this weekend and get some pictures from Chris and Kristin’s Salem Engagement shoot up on the blog, so check back for more fun pictures..for now here are some photos from my travels this past week:

South Beach Wedding Photography – Hair & Make-Up Stylists

Maarit and I visited South Beach Miami this past February to do some final wedding planning.  We made the rounds which included picking out a cake at We Take the Cake, visiting The National Hotel [Jamie Lipman rocks] for our tasting and final walk-through with our fabulous decor people at Unforgettable Events, and of course Maarit experienced her hair and make-up trials.  It was a fun week and definitely made everything much more real in terms of knowing that you have a wedding coming up.  Exciting stuff!

I did take some pictures during the hair and make-up trials.  We meet up at a really funky studio in the Miami art district called Eazy Street Gallery.  In the pictures you can see some of the art on the walls.  They have a really big space there and some great exhibits.  They are doing some really cool stuff in the arts community – so if you are in the Miami area, check them out.  On to the hair and make-up…

Nicole Peglow of Peglow Designs is doing Maarit’s hair, and Maritza of Make-up by Marz is doing the make-up.  Both of these women were really cool and I had a great time just hanging out and watching it all go down.  It was super bowl week in Miami and things were a bit crazy – both were headed off to do hair and make-up for celebs at some big events which sounded exciting.

Personally I am not having any make-up done – nor my hair styled per se for the wedding.  I did get my hair cut while we were in Miami though – so I might stop back there and have them give me some professional love.  For peeps in the Miami area – you have to check out Nue Studio, very hip salon – Carolyn was da bomb.  Plus there are all kinds of vintage goodies around the salon and they are for sale…

A lot goes into planning a wedding, especially one that isn’t near your home.  But we are really excited about heading down to South Beach with our friends and family for our big day and we know that we’ve chosen some great people to work with.  I think that is the important thing – knowing that you gel with all the people you’ve hired to put your big day together – that those people are true professionals at what they do – and also that you love their work (and knowing that they love their work too).  I love weddings and can’t believe it’s almost time for my own!!!  July 3rd 2010 is right around the corner…

Wedding Photography Shoot – Las Vegas

As some of you may know, I spent this past week in Las Vegas at WPPI, a huge conference for portrait and wedding photographers.  The experience was absolutely amazing and I will be sure to post more about it separately!  But first I wanted to share some photos I took at a stylized shoot at the Las Vegas Country Club this past Sunday.

On Sunday I took part in a photo shoot that helped raise money for charity, put together by Laura Marchbanks, with the assistance of several generous vendors and Connecticut wedding photographers Justin and Mary Marantz.  For three hours myself and 19 other photographers took turns at various stations set up throughout the country club grounds.  I was so excited about this opportunity and learned so much from it!

I am going to share a few photos [there are bunch I haven't been able to go through] and can’t wait to put a Kiss album together.  Photography in general is amazing, but there is something very powerful about wedding photography that just “clicks” with me.  Yes, that was a stupid word to use – but I couldn’t resist…but back to the power. Seriously, the power of imagery and creating something that a person would run into a burning building to save because those memories are so important to them – that is something special.  I say this often, but I am truly grateful for all of these opportunities that have been presenting themselves to me.  For once in my life, my path just seems so right….

Rachel & Tim’s Engagement Shoot – Watertown Wedding Photographer

This past Saturday Maarit and I traveled to Watertown (and the Charles River) to spend a little time shooting Rachel and Tim. Rachel and Tim will be getting married in October at the Wayside Inn out in Sudbury. For anyone that hasn’t been out there, the website for the Wayside doesn’t do this venue justice! I DJ’ed a wedding there in 2008 – and what thrills me is the old barns, fall foliage, and just the rustic feeling of the whole area surrounding the inn. I am so excited to have the opportunity to photograph their wedding in October!

Okay, back to Rachel and Tim. They were so awesome and so sweet thus making them a pleasure to photograph!  Tim is a transplant from North Carolina and Rachel is a Massachusetts native. Actually, I should add that Rachel is my friend’s step sister, and that friend is Erika, whose picture can be found in this blog in the Summer Photo Party posting. [Erika and her wife Kelli are the second photo down the page]. And…now back to Rachel and Tim (I just can’t help talking about all these other things)!

The photo shoot was awesome, these two were great – totally in love and excited for their fall New England wedding and well, the pictures say it all. I should note that Maarit took some shots, and she took some KILLER shots. Seriously, this girl has talent and I am excited to have her by my side and on my team. Plus, she loves weddings even more than I do [she's subscribed to Martha Stewart Weddings magazine since something like the age of 14, wait did this magazine even exist then?], which makes her even more killer to have by my side! Yeah, I love being a photographer!

Oh – and I know that there are 18 photos in this posting – but there are just TOO many good ones, I was in the sharing mood!

Maarit’s Birdcage Wedding Veil – Bella Sera Bridal

I have a lot of catching up to do on the blog because so much has been happening over the past few weeks. Hey, this is good – it will get me into the desired habit of posting once a day and making things more interesting for those that check in on me….

Our preparation is in full swing – we are getting married on July 3rd, 2010 at The National Hotel in South Beach Miami. I may have mentioned this before? Anyway, I have more to post on that later. But for now I present some images of Maarit who was recently trying on her birdcage veil to check out her look…I am digging the classic vibe….

For those of you that dig the veil – it was purchased at Bella Sera Bridal in Danvers, Massachusetts. I will give a shout out to them in another post because they are awesome!
